31st Annual General Meeting

The 31st Annual General Meeting of the Woods Bay Community Association took place on Saturday, June 21st, 2025 at the historic Pennsylvania Club. This event was met with extraordinary fan fare at the new location. A huge "Thank You" goes out to the members of Penn Club who not only supplied a fantastic venue, but also welcomed us with a great lunch and refreshments. Truly a heartwarming experience for all in attendance.

The day started with a great introduction by Reg McGuire who called the meeting to open. Pennsylvania Club President Joe then took the stage to provide all the members with a brief history of the site and its members before Jamie Crichton, club treasurer gave a brief update to the club finances. Jamie also made a call for all members to provide ideas for what more the club could do to add value for it's members.

Reg McGuire took the stage once again to deliver the President's report. Highlighting some of the club initiatives, including the current buoy initiative which has been receiving great feedback from members and residents.

Everyone received a CAP update which included news on the following programs:

  • Julia Webster - Fire Pumps

  • Aime Dion - Grisdale Road Committee Update

  • Reg McGuire - Buoy Program

Some of the take aways of this section was Julia calling on all members to look at the updated fire pump locations and call list. She also called on all members who either need a refresher in fire pump practice to make contact with her at any time to learn more. Aime provided a call to folks who utilize Grisdale Road to access their property. While most of the residents on the road pay dues into the road upkeep, those who utilize the marinas that use that road largely do not. Aime would like to see those who do access their marina through that road to consider contributing to the upkeep as well. Reg then took the stage to discuss the buoy program which has received a lot of positive feedback and a call to all members to provide suggestions of additional locations where buoys would be appreciated.

Anthony Dion and Jeff Hendrycks took the stage asking for members and residents to provide suggestions for potential uses of Lot 4. Lot 4 is a commercial lot purchased by the Dion's and is located just opposite Moon River Marine on Grisdale Road. It is an offshore site, and Dion construction is looking for suggestions of desired services that the community would appreciate. These comments can be made on the WBCA website or members can contact Jeff directly at 647-765-7752 or at jmhendrycks@gmail.com.

The ward four councillors and Reeve (Dave Ashley, Alice Barton, Bert Liverance) as well as the new CAO John to address the members and take questions from the crowd. Many questions were asked including plenty about many of the environmental initiatives the township is taking to curb the proliferation of invasive species. Another topic that came up was the continuation of the Woods Bay Study, originally printed in 2010 but will be going through an update this year. Bert brought up many changes which are impacting the community and noted that the township and ward are experiencing a contraction of services. These are partly why a continuation of the Woods Bay Study is required at this time. Once again, ideas from the community are highly encouraged and can be submitted through the WBCA Suggestion Box, found on the WBCA website.

Reports were provided by the Georgian Bay Association, the OPP Marine Unit, Georgian Bay Forever and the Massasauga Park. Following this, the group broke for lunch and departed the great event at the historic Penn Club.
